Historical Context

This window is not a memorial, but the money for its purchase was contributed my Mr. Stephen Duncan, and it is considered one of Lafarge's best efforts. The parish was largely established by Dr. Stephen Duncan, of which amassed his wealth through the profits of chattel slavery. The position of rector was passed to commissioned through rector Reverend Alexander Marks in 1873. Reverend Alexander Marks was responsible for many if the major building projects, including the installation of Ascension. Within a few years of being installed, a new rectory was build behind the window, limiting the to a pinpoint. Andrew Cary Young at Pearl River Glass was asked to restore the window and install backlighting for the stained glass window, not only returning it to its former glory that few people have witnessed since the rectory was built behind it. Marshall Nabors, restoration specialist, was responsible for returning the window to its former glory. Some leading was preserved at the bottom of the window, as it was expertly done.
